Behind every successful junior member is a hardworking and passionate youth advisor. Paula Boyd has been that mentor for youth of the Kentucky Junior Angus Association (KJAA) for more than a decade. Her commitment to serving Angus juniors has earned her the Advisor of the Year honor at the 2022 National Junior Angus Show.

Coming from a deeply-rooted Angus family, Boyd holds a lifetime of love for the breed. Throughout her years serving as the KJAA advisor, Boyd has brought enthusiasm and growth to all areas of the association. More specifically, Boyd has played a key role in planning two National Junior Angus Shows, multiple Eastern Regional Shows and countless annual state shows.

“She opens her home for meetings, organizes meals at junior nationals and is an advocate for the Angus breed,” said Jamie Gray, fellow KJAA advisor. “She is always available with an encouraging word, a smile or a hug. Her kind and caring manner helps her build relationships and excitement about our junior association.”

Boyd’s innovative mind and generous touch have been instrumental in expanding funds and stretching the reach of the association. Whether coordinating fundraising events, driving junior members to leadership conferences, or supporting exhibitors in the show ring Boyd has made a lasting impact.

“It is rewarding to know these kids are going to be successful in life,” Boyd said. “Watching kids get elected on the junior board or run their own Angus cows after they age out is very special. If I play a little role in that, then I did my job.”

The magnitude of time and behind-the-scenes work youth advisors put in is a true testament to their commitment and belief in juniors. Carrying on that legacy of building future industry leaders is what makes all the work worthwhile to Boyd.

“She never wants personal credit for her long hours and tireless work,” Gray said. “Her willingness to help others and dedication to all juniors make her an excellent choice for Advisor of the Year.”

The Advisor of the Year award was started in 1980 to recognize the incredible work state advisors of the junior Angus association contribute to supporting Angus youth. All National Junior Angus Association state advisors are eligible for the award by sending in a letter of nomination.
